Why Record Stories?
My Grandma kept a family Bible near the front door of her house. It was an old Bible that I think my cousin still has today. She would put every important document in it and annotate it with special events and family history. It was a fairly large hardbound book that had been passed through generations. Maybe it had come originally from Scotland, I'm not sure. Point being, we still have that Bible, but we don't have Grandma's voice and the stories she told (she was good at repeating stories) have faded in my memory.
I want to capture my family's stories and voice now so my daughter and her children can go back and listen to our family and the stories and know where we came from. Grandma was born before television and she rode a horse to school. My Dad saw German tanks as a boy in Tunisia. I started too late to get their stories recorded, but I definitely want to get the stories from my mother.
I too may have a yarn or two to record.
